TOPIC HEROES: DRAW YOUR OWN COMIC STRIP PROJECT Students should be able to draw their own cartoons either on internet or by their own means using recycled material. English should be the language used by all the characters they create or speak about.

ACTIVITIES Activity 1 “What are comic strips?” 1. Students will listen from their teacher or “language auxiliary” about comic strips. 2. Students will receive their laptops and they will be answering questions about comics Mostly about its history, editors and characters. 3. They will be writing an essay about a character of their choice. 4. A couple of volunteers in class will be introducing their work to the rest of the students. List of Web Pages Activity 2 “Finding your favourite character” 1. Students should look for comics at home – if they have old ones it would be much better – And then they have to find out about its history and details like: who draw them and who was writing the script. 2. Students have to write and explain what are the reasons why this is their favourite comic. Activity 3 “The class is creating their own comic strip” 1. Students vote for the name of a new character, they define him/her and make a description of the character, height, size, features, body, skin, etc, etc. 2. Once they have done this, they have to start a story with funny situations. 3. Each group will be making one part of the story until we get to the end of it. Activity 4 “Create your own characters” Students will bring card boards, colour pens, scissors and other materials that they might need and they will start drawing the characters they have created in the previous activity. Activity 5 “Translating” 1. Students will bring their own comic book. 2. They will scan one of the pages. The result will be a JPG document. 3. They will stick the JPG document into a word processor like writer. 4. They will be translating the comic strip and the result will be a page exactly the same as the previous one in Spanish but with text in English this time. We will be very careful when dealing with “onomatopoeic words” Activity 6 1. Students will be bringing their own photographs. 2. They will be using one of the web pages where they can insert their own photographs. 3. They will create their own comic strip.
