Here's a surrealist song about Global Warming and related side-issues.
It's an original comedy song written and
performed by Gravity George, filmed in Avondale, NZ, on March 29th, 2008.
I had just been to the Split Enz concert. This was recorded at 1.30am (when I do my best work) and played on my recently purchased yellow ukulele.
The song is about Global Warming, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, drilling for oil, the Americas Cup, and a certain desire for fast food at the end of the week.
Here are the lyrics for anyone who is interested:
Santa don't bring me no presents no more
The Arctic Sea laps at his front door
Global warming melted his polar ice cap home
Santa don't bring me no presents no more
He's been washed out by the rising foreshore
Now he makes cheesy tv ads for vodafone
Oh, look out for the Easter Chicken
She's the one who laid the Easter Egg
They put in the bunny
Just to make it seem funny
Okay I'm gonna give you the warning
The bad news on this Autumn morning
Something to do with Global Warming
Glad my caravan has got an awning
The next bit's not strictly global warming - it's just something I always wanted to sing
Got my Mojo Working
Got my Mojo Working
Okay, back to the song - Okay, back to the song
Oil's running out, everybody shout and start drilling.
But it's no use, there's none left for spilling.
So now they're gonna make cars run on chip oil.
But will there be enough oil left to make the chips?
Cos that's one thing that I'd really miss, cos I
Fooken love chips on a Friday night
It's much better than a bag of shite!
Feeling all right and I'm outta sight
Cos I fooken love chips on a Friday night!
Repeat key sets of words for chorus
It doesn't have to be too clever
Repeat key sets of words for chorus
It doesn't have to be too clever
And now, the Americas Cup bit:
And we're dreaming of the day when we'll beat Alinghi
In our inflatable rubber dinghy
And I hope the crew doesn't get any fatter
in case they sink in the Waitemata,
'Cos they
Fooken love chips on a Friday night!
It's much better than a bag of shite!
Feeling all right and I'm outta sight
Cos I fooken love chips on a Friday night, oh yeah
Three dollars worth please
