Ride The Pink Elephant

This short movie is a savvy political mockumentary featuring two presidential advertisements for Barack Obama and John McCain. The title of this movie refers to the political idiom: The Elephant in the Room. The underlying meaning infers that there is a controversial topic which is obvious but is not addressed or ignored. In terms of the 2008 election MCains elephant in the room would be his old age. It was purposefully not brought up in his campaign because it was not a vote getter. He could be the president for four years, but eight years could have a serious toll on his health and virility. Obamas elephant in the room would pertain to his race. He has a white mother and a black father. He did not stress his diverse racial background in his campaign.

The symbol of the Donkey represents the Democratic Party and the symbolism of the Elephant represent the Republican Party. These animal totems are symbols of these contrasting political ideologies. I dressed up as pink elephant simply to get more attention and laughs. I did intend to, or imply any of the connotations that a Pink elephant has: its synonymous with alcohol abuse.

The Pink Elephant rejects the conventions of normal advertising. This power animal challenges authority and disestablishes the establishment of tradition by defying boundaries set up by our political institutions. The pink elephant addresses controversial topics which are obvious, but largely ignored.
