"Paws on the Path Information sheet The Town of Vincent is piloting an exciting new project called Paws on the Path to promote physical activity through free dog training and dog walking groups. The Town of Vincent recognises the valuable contribution to the community that dogs and their owners make. If you are a Town of Vincent resident with a dog over six months old you may be eligible for the free training. See the ‘Conditions of Training’ below for more information. Dog walking groups Walking is a great way for dogs and owners to keep fit and healthy, what better way to keep active than to meet with friends down at the local park and walk your dogs together. Become a volunteer Dog Walking Leader and, once a week, walk with others and their dogs who have completed the training program. FREE training To ensure a fun experience when out walking your dog yourself, or with others, the Town is piloting a free dog training and walking program. This will be conducted once a week over several weeks at a local park. Details for the pilot program are: • Britannia Reserve – Leederville (Northern end) • Monday evenings • 6 – 7pm Course content will include: Dog behaviour (Prevention and management of Problems) Socialisation Obedience training and handling when walking Dogs who have demonstrated successful training will be issued with a Paws on the Path certificate and there is the opportunity for the group to continue to meet as a dog walking group. Experienced Dog Trainer The Town of Vincent is working with renowned animal behaviourist Dr Garth Jennens to deliver a quality program including: 1. 2. 3. 4. Conditions of Training Dog owners please read the following conditions that are applicable before attending a Paws on the Path training session. To access the free training the owner must be a Town of Vincent resident. Proof of current vaccination MUST be produced prior to entering the first class Dogs must be six months or older and registered within the Town of Vincent. No bitches in season are to participate in training or to be brought to the ground. Handlers must wear suitable footwear (e.g. sneakers), and a hat is recommended on warm days. Young children if attending the classes, as spectators, must be supervised by another adult. It is recommended that handlers have a one-metre cotton, nylon or leather leash and an adjustable collar (where appropriate head collars or slip collars may be used). The handler must provide a bowl and water, and it is recommended that the dog should not be fed within two hours of the start of a lesson. Dogs should be kept away from other dogs that are drinking. The class co-ordinator reserves the right to refuse entry into the class any dog with a behavioural or medical problem that would restrict its participation in the class or handler who is unable to comply with the conditions of training, or presents a risk to themselves or others. The handler must pick up any dog droppings and dispose of it appropriately. Bins are located at the venue. Please provide an appropriate bag for this purpose Training will take place in wet or fine weather, unless advised by the Instructor. It is acknowledged that attendance at a training class, may involve risk to the handler, their dog or others who may also attend. It is the responsibility of the handler to control their dogs when near other dogs before and after class. A Waiver of Risk document must be signed to join the programme. To assist with administrative matters please arrive 10-15 minutes before the class starting time on the first day of training. Training Program The course teaches basic commands and provides an opportunity to practise these in an area with other dogs. Including: gaining the dogs attention, sit and come, walking on a lead, handling exercises, socialisation, problem behaviours (mouthing, jumping). Further dog issues can be discussed with the trainer on site who can advise on further actions needed.

Paws on the Path & Pupi training Waiver and Assumption of Risk 1. I acknowledge that, even when all due care and skill taken, attendance at: a. Any dog training session b. Any dog training brief c. Any dog walking session d. PUPi’s or Town of Vincent training grounds or surrounding area (together “services”) may involve risk or injury or damage to: e. Myself f. Others who may attend g. My dog or any other dog h. Property I personally assume this risk, 2. PUPi and the Town of Vincent will exercise all due care and skill in carrying out the services 3. Subject to my rights (as modified herein) pursuant to s40 Fair trading Act 1987 in consideration of PUPi and the Town of Vincent agreeing to provide any of the services to me; I release PUPi and the Town of Vincent, its owners, sub contractors, employees, officers, members and agents from any liability whatsoever for any injury or damage resulting in any way from the services, and waive any rights I may have against PUPi and the Town of Vincent its owners, sub contractors, employees, officers, members and agents arising from such injury or damage. I indemnify PUPi and the Town of Vincent its owners, sub contractors, employees, officers, members and agents against all claims which may arise from providing any of the services to me. 4. I understand and agree that if PUPi or the Town of Vincent breaches the applied warranty in s40 Fair Trading Act 1987 (that warranty being to exercise all due care and skill in providing the services), its liability will be limited to either; a.
